Lutheran World Federation World Service Kenya-Djibouti Program is seeking to recruit an individual for the position of Volunteer Occupational Therapist based in Djibouti Refugee Operation. The Volunteer Occupational Therapist will be responsible for providing services to persons with disabilities in the refugee camps in line with the requirements of the organization. S/he will report directly to the Project Coordinator/Special Needs Education Officer, while working closely on a daily basis in collaboration with other sectors of LWF in ensuring a multidisciplinary approach is observed in provision of services to persons with disabilities.
· The occupational therapist will Assess, identify and implement Therapy Programs for students, infants, children and adults with special needs which include cognitive and functional rehabilitation.
· Offer guidance to help improve their cognitive, physical or motor skills including assisting patients with coordination training, speech training or even basic handwriting development to assist them to become independent in their daily lives.
· Evaluate, document clients’ occupational therapy needs; monitor and evaluate their progress against outcome management tools.
· Modify therapeutic techniques and develop new strategies to compensate for functional limitation
· Work with interdisciplinary teams to provide holistic treatment for persons with disabilities
· Work with and train school teachers/ mobile teacher, community service assistance, caregiver, parents and volunteers
· Provide information about services available in the community and link persons with disabilities through referrals and follow ups
· Advocate for improved accessibility of persons with disabilities by making connections with health centers, schools and workplaces
· Collection and proper maintenance of relevant data in accordance to the requirements of the organization.
· Educate and train family members on how to support persons with disabilities
· Raise awareness in the community about disability to promote inclusion in family and community life
· Support persons with disabilities to form support groups
· Attend internal disability and inter agency coordination meetings
· Working in collaboration with others to promote independence in all aspects of life
· Participate in report writing, concept notes and proposal development
· Assisting with any other related activities as deemed necessary by the Community Service sector and/or the organization
Qualifications
- Interested applicants should have a Diploma in Occupational therapy from KMTC and be registered and licensed by the Kenya Occupational Therapy Association (KOTA).
- Good knowledge and practical experience in Community Based Rehabilitation program development and service delivery.
- Should have a valid certificate of Police Clearance or good conduct.
- Good knowledge and experience with Child Protection Policies.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse teams
- Excellent Computer and report writing skills
