JOB ROLE:
The Mentor Teacher under LWF programs is to support the education program in Maban
BACKGROUND:
The Lutheran World Federation/Department for World Service (LWF/DWS) South Sudan Programme was established in 2009 and strives to provide humanitarian assistance (emergency/relief, rehabilitation and development work) to refugees and other vulnerable communities to enable them meet their basic human rights and needs in line with its vision and mission statements, and core values. The activities of LWF include education, child protection, food security, emergency, community protection and capacity building of local authorities and community members.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES;
· Prepare scheme of work and lesson plans ahead of teaching
· Make available teaching and learning Aids
· Attend to duty regularly and to all lessons allocated on the time table
· Provide adequate learning exercises to the learners
· Regularly check the learners exercise books and make comments where necessary
· Set and administer tests and exams as may be required from time to time
· Mark the test, grade the learners and analyze the scores with the intention of taking remedial action
· Provide regular and encouraging feedback and report forms to learners
· Register daily attendance of learners in the classes assigned and report any irregular cases noted for follow up.
· Control the activities and the behavior of learners in class and while in school
· Ensure the correct use of all school property and supplies at all times.
· Take active role in back to school campaigns and mobilization
· Take part in Psycho social activities in schools.
· Uphold at all times the LWF core values, policies and code of conduct
· Ensure that no form of abuse of children takes place in the school and report any cases witnessed of heard of for appropriate action.
· Ensure hygiene and sanitation standards are maintained in the school at all times
· Promote and advocate for enrolment of all children of school going age, especially girls
· Assist in the management of the other school programs as may be assigned
· Update the Education Officer on the progress of the education interventions and attend any meetings or discussions as advised by the Education Officer or his designate
· Maintain neat and respectable dressing code at all times in and out of school
· Should not engage in any activities that are classified as an abuse to children, be it physically, sexually or psychologically.
· Should not consume alcohol during working hours or report to duty under the influence of alcohol or any other drugs or Smoke cigarettes in within the school compound.
· Uphold integrity and honesty at all times and be good example in and out of school
· Treat all the colleagues and community members interested with in the line of duty with respect and dignity irrespective of their gender, race, religion or political persuasion
· Should not engage in any activities that may put the name or the programs of LWF in disrepute or dispute.
Qualification and Experience
· At least diploma holder in Education, Degree will be of an added advantage. Most preferably a Secondary school Teacher Certificate
· 2 years experiences in teaching
· Proficiency in written and spoken English
· Basic Knowledge in Spoken and Written Arabic
· Past experience in Teaching or Handling of children is preferred
· Understanding of the Sudan and South Sudan Education Systems
